Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague

Institute of Hydrogeology, Engineering Geology and Applied Geophysics of the Charles University, Faculty of Science, is the leading Czech institution focused to applied geology. According to the specializations it  consists of three departments. More than 600 specialists have graduated here during more than 50 years.
At present more than 15 faculty members carry out the research in the field of groundwater, civil engineering, environment, utilization of natural resources, structure of the Earth crust, rock magnetism, extraterestrial geophysics, induced seismicity and the relation of crustal fluids to earthquake occurence. The institute includes laboratory of soil mechanics, radioisotopic carbon and tritium dating laboratory and a pool of geophysical instruments. It also runs Carbonet network for monitoring of CO2 degassing in West Bohemia.
